Damascus, Maryland is an unincorporated area in Montgomery County with a small population of approximately 12,000 residents. Damascus, MD was previously incorporated for twenty five years in the early portion of the 20th century and reclassified as unincorporated in 1914. The township of Damascus is considered to be an historical landmark from the Civil War era.
Damascus has developed over the years, but is still considered to be mainly an agricultural area. There are several small family-owned farms around Damascus and various 4-H events are very common in the area. The Damascus Community Fair is an annual event that has been in operation since 1940 and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
